Gemma Ward – The Baby Doll Supermodel

Gemma Ward was born November 3, 1987, in Perth, Australia. She started in modeling when she was with friends at a model search competition called “Search for a Supermodel”. She was noticed by a scout for Vivien’s Model Agency, and eventually got noticed by a model scout for IMG in New York City.

At the age of 15 she began her modeling career at the Australian Fashion Week in 2013. At 16, she appeared in American Vogue photographed by Steven Meisel, and by the end of the year had been on the cover of Australian Vogue three times, and also on the cover of British Vogue, Vogue Paris, and Vogue Japan.

In 2005, she walked the runway for Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein. The next year, she became the face of Obsession Night perfume by Calvin Klein. Later that year she also signed deals with Burberry and Valentino. That year she also was on the cover of Vogue Italia, Vogue Greece, TIME’s Style and Design Issue, and Vogue China.

In 2007, she appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia and Vogue India.

Since 2014 Lara Stone has walked for Prada, and appeared on the cover of Australian Vogue, Pop, Russh, Australia InStyle, and Elle Australia.

“It’s hard if you start believing that you should be really that perfect fantasy ideal, that people start believing because of all of the retouching. You can delve into that fantasy world and play with it, but when you walk away, that’s not you.”

“As a model you do play a certain role and you know as an actor you play another role.”

“I never really cared about what I looked like.”

“Lots of models have played mermaids throughout history and it is, kind of, a funny rite of passage.”
